“Unlike most of Leigh’s Real Life REV GIRLS, I didn’t grow up riding motorcycles. In fact, I swore I’d never get on two wheels again after breaking up with my high school boyfriend, Psycho Mike, who found great joy scaring me witless on his piece of crap sport bike.

“But then I met Brian. Brian is a third generation motorcyclist. Even his grandmother rode. He convinced me to hop on the back of his ’78 BMW R80/7 for an afternoon cruise, and after just a couple rides, I knew without a doubt, I wanted to be the one behind the handlebars.

“Two decades later (yeah, I’m old…), I have five bikes of my own, and love long distance riding–climbing on the bike morning after morning, putting a bunch of miles in the rear view, seeing the sights, smelling the smells, meeting new people, and experiencing the nuances of the road. Best trip? A three-week cross-country journey from California to Wisconsin—a 5200 mile adventure I’ll never forget. Quite simply… motorcycle vacations RULE. I’m telling you, something magical happens when you spend a couple of weeks exploring on two-wheels. If you haven’t done it, DO IT.

“My latest endeavor? Improving my skills in the dirt. Over the years, I’ve done a bit here and there, but now that we have a weekend house near Joshua Tree in the California high desert, my ’76 Honda TL125 is getting a lot more exercise. I love being out in nature, and going places inaccessible to cars, even if I do sometimes get intimidated by a big hill. But man! When you find that nice vista out in the desert, with no one around but your riding partner, it’s pretty spectacular.

“The thrill of discovery while in the saddle of a motorcycle seriously can’t be beat.”

Here’s the synopsis for Lori’s novel, MOTOR DOLLS!

Set against the subculture of classic cars, motorcycles, tattoos, and vintage fashion, MOTOR DOLLS takes the reader on a thrilling, girl-powered ride in search of life’s passions, featuring Jeda, a graphic artist full of bad-assery, and Benny, a photographer seeking her Perfect Moment on film.

A prophecy shared by a stranger on the day of her grandmother’s death pushes Jeda to live like there’s no tomorrow, chasing one outrageous stunt after another, all instigated by mysterious messages from an unknown source. But when the danger escalates, she begins to question the motive behind it all: Is she simply nuts? Or is some mysterious man in gray really trying to drive her to her death?

In her search for answers, Jeda lets Benny in on the secret, and since Benny is at a crossroads—finish her Masters in Geology? or drop out of school to pursue her true passion? —she agrees to help. As Benny documents the madness of Jeda’s life on film, like driving in a Blindfolded Death Race and luging downhill on a skateboard with no brakes, the Motor Dolls learn the truth behind the enigmatic man in gray; a truth that tests the foundations of Jeda’s family and of their friendship.
